Ambassador of Georgia to the State of Qatar visit to the GECF Headquarters

Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Secretary General Dr. Yury Sentyurin had a working meeting with His Excellency Mr. Nikoloz Revazishvili, the Ambassador of Georgia to the State of Qatar, at the GECF Headquarters earlier this week. The GECF Secretary General and the Ambassador discussed areas of mutual interest, based on the essential importance of Georgia as a transit area through the Caucasus region. The country is located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe and is bound to the west by the Black Sea. Due to its geographical position, the country plays an important role in terms of pipeline gas transit to the consuming countries in the region. The country is bound to several major natural gas exporting GECF Member Countries such as the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation. Currently the contract obligations for transit between the countries are under discussion. The South Caucasus country consumes approximately 2.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. At the same time it became apparent that the growing Georgian economy has a need for ever increasing energy inputs. This will result in an increase in the country’s consuming capacity, the need for increased knowledge, exploring new technologies, investors and business partners. Covering further areas of discussion, HE Dr. Sentyurin informed HE Mr. Revazishvili of the Forum’s achievements, composition and major milestones that were achieved over the past 10 years of the GECF’s existence. The meeting shows a willingness of both parties to collaborate based on inherent common interest and has paved the way for further discussion.
